We got together with several friends tonight for a dinner party and brought along some sausage and cheddar biscuits with honey mustard. Sadly, we were so busy stuffing our faces that we forgot to take a picture until everything was almost gone!
This is one of our favorite recipes for tailgating or potlucks. Easy to make and easy to reheat in the oven when you need a quick snack on the table.
Sausage and Cheddar Biscuits
makes about 100
2 1/2 cups AP flour
1 Tbs baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, chilled and cubed
2 cups sharp cheddar, shredded
12 oz fresh breakfast sausage, casings removed
Blend together flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl and then cut butter into the mixture with your fingers until the mixtures resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in the cheddar and sausage, vigorously combining until a crumbly dough forms. You'll need to use quite a bit of arm strength, but eventually the warmth of your hands will help bring the dough together. Pinch off small pieces of dough and roll into balls about 1 inch in diameter. Place on an ungreased baking sheet and continue rolling until all the dough is used.
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until bottoms are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
Honey Mustard Sauce
2 Tbs mayonnaise
2 tsp coarse mustard
2 tsp HONEY
several dashes each of hot sauce and worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp creole seasoning or a pinch each of garlic powder, cayenne, paprika, thyme, salt, and black pepper
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
