This is the original arrangement. You get the bees, the hive, a year of instruction and mentoring, AND all your honey in the fall.
This is perfect for someone who is relatively confident that they would like to continue beekeeping in the future and is just looking for help getting started. You have the potential to recoup a large portion of your cost if you get a good honey harvest, but you will need to put up a larger investment in honey-harvesting equipment. If you want to expand your hives in the future, this is a great option because you will need this in the future anyway. Your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors will love receiving your home-produced honey as a gift, or you can try to make a little money off of it!
If you're less sure about your commitment to bees in the future, or don't want to deal with the mess and time required to harvest and market your honey, consider Option II.
The cost of this package is $350 for one hive. Additional hives can be added for $280/hive.
A small additional charge may be added for beekeepers outside of Dane County. Contact us with your location for more details. If you are located near our apiaries this charge may be waived.
More frequent visits are available during the season if you would like more help going through your hives. The cost for this would be $20 per visit for beekeepers in Dane County. A small fee will be charged for travel outside of that area.
- A down payment of $50 is required at registration.
- Pay $150 when the hive is set up in April.
- Pay the final $150 on June 1st.
